2019 came to a close only ten days ago, and I talked about my year in detail in the last blog post of 2019. Today is the day to talk about my goals for 2020. And let me tell you, I’m hyped.

I want to make 2020 the year I put out the most content I ever have. I learn a lot while producing the content, and it is a lot of fun to write articles, create videos, tweets, and thinking about what to create next.

Getting feedback on a piece of content is one of the best things I can get. I get excited if people notice my contributions, and if they learn something from what I have to say, it makes me smile.

Why I produce free content

In 2019 I invested a lot of time into content creation (Blog, YouTube, Twitter). It was a lot of fun to me, and I want to do more of that in 2020.

After all, I enjoy helping developers learn something new. It means a lot to me. I want to be able to help as many people get access to knowledge that is possible.

When I initially started with programming around 2002, there were not many options to learn to program except books. I want to be a part of the community that helps to make knowledge available to a bigger audience.

How much money I make

I’m currently not making any money with my content. I do not run ads on my blog, I do not yet meet the monetization requirements for my YouTube channel, and I never made money on Twitter.

I have a single article where I talk about ten books I wholeheartedly recommend to any developer. In this article, I have a few Amazon affiliate links. If people go to Amazon and buy the books, I get a small commission. Currently, I make about 20$ a month.

To be able to focus more on content creation, I decided to take another pay cut by reducing the number of hours I work for my employer in 2020.

It means a pay cut that does hurt in the long run, and I hope that I can compensate that by putting out more content in 2020 and grow my following on all platforms by releasing more content.

Maybe at the end of 2020, I can make a few dollars back, that would mean the world to me. I have an idea for an exciting project. I am going to share it with all of you as soon as possible.

Blog goals

In 2019, I wrote 33 blog posts. It was a lot of fun to do the research, write the articles, think about what topic to tackle next, and putting everything into WordPress and to press the publish button.

In 2020, I want to set the goal to write 40 articles. Initially, I thought about writing a post every week, but then I realized that holidays happen, sick time happens, and sometimes I just want to do other things, and there is no need to pressure myself.

Let’s go for +20% more articles in 2020.

I reached about 20’000 page views at the end of November 2019. I set myself the goal to reach 100’000 page views by the end of 2020. It’s a huge goal, and I’m curious to see where the journey leads me.

Weekly Emails

If you scroll to the bottom of any article on my blog, you’ll see a form asking for your name and your email. I don’t want to spam people but offer an option to receive more free content and to stay in touch with me.

I want to not only share my content with my email subscribers but also provide more content, build a relationship with my readers, and offer the option to answer questions people send to me. It’s a great way to get in touch with me and get answers to your question.

I put a lot of work into writing those weekly emails, and I hope to grow my subscribers from currently 180 to at least 500, preferably 1000 people by the end of the years. I want to make one-on-one conversations a priority in 2020.

I hope to write engaging emails so that people reply and give me more content ideas. Getting ideas directly from people’s questions makes sure I provide as much value as I can with my contributions.

The goal is simple: Send an email to my audience every single week.

If you want to subscribe and stay in touch, make sure you put your name and email into the form. I’m looking forward to talking to you soon.

YouTube goals

Going into the second year of my YouTube channel, I want to set a goal. The first year was all about learning how to produce videos, make the experience, and gain subscribers and views. I wrote about my first year of my YouTube channel at the end of 2019.

For the second year, I want to make sure that I produce more than 11 videos. I had to learn a lot in my first year on YouTube, but now I want to take things to the next level. Every video is a lot of work, but I definitely want to grow my channel and therefore need to have more content on my channel.

The goal will be to produce a video every other week. It means I want to raise the number of videos I publish in 2020 to 25 videos. While I can control the number of videos I publish, I cannot control the subscriber count or the views my videos get.

According to my current growth, I will reach 1000 subscribers by the end of March 2020, and by the end of 2020, I will have about 4000 subscribers and 250’000 views. Of course, I hope to raise those numbers by putting in more work and publishing more videos than last year. We’ll see at the end of the year.

It would mean the world to me if I could make it to 10’000 subscribers and 500’000 views by the end of 2020. If you are not subscribed to my channel, this might be the perfect time to do so.

I’m also wondering what my CPM will be once I reach the monetization requirements. I’ll have 1000 subscribers soon, but it will take a little longer to reach the required 4000 hours of watch time.

Twitter goals

I put in a lot of work in connecting with people on Twitter in 2019. I want to go down the road a little further in 2020 and spend more time talking to people one-on-one, promoting my content, and sharing other peoples’ content.

In 2019 I found many new followers, and I hope the growth continues in 2020. I would feel exceptional if I made it to 5000 followers by the end of 2020 by spending more time on the platform.

I’ll answer every single tweet and every answer to every tweet I get mentioned in 2020. I already learned a lot from the conversations I had in the first few days of 2020.

I spend a lot of time producing meaningful content on Twitter, and if you aren’t following me yet, you definitely should click on my Twitter profile and press the button. Talk to you soon.

I set the goal to write at least 500, preferably 1000 tweets a month in 2020.

Conclusion

I hope to make 2020 my most successful year in terms of content creation. All in all, I want to spend as much time as possible doing what I love, and I’m curious to see where time takes me and where I’ll find myself at the end of 2020.

I also want to try other content than before. Close to every article on this blog is about .NET development or software development. I might do a few articles about content creation and other topics that are important to me in the future.

I’ll carefully monitor if people are interested in reading more behind the scenes of my professional life and about content creation.

The main focus of my content will remain .NET development.

If you made it this far, I wish you a great 2020 and hope it’s going to be the most successful for you too.
